Everything you need to know about Liquid Flow Screed

January 23, 2019

What actually is it?

Liquid flow screed is a mixture of Gypsol and sharp sand which produces a smooth finish that’s flat and strong compared to cement screeds.

Why is it better than traditional sand and cement screeds.

Liquid flow screeds have an advantage of being self-levelling, fast-drying and more accurate than the traditional screeds.

What are the benefits?

Liquid flow screed is easy to pour and it’s liquid properties allow a quick drying and installation time. It works effectively when combined with underfloor heating systems, as it eliminates air pockets and therefore increases conductivity. This therefore generates a balanced heat across the floor that’s thermally efficient.

I don’t have underfloor heating, can I still use screed flooring?

Yes, our floors are intended for use in all areas of construction, meaning liquid flow screed is not limited to underfloor heating. Our liquid flow screed eliminated the need to seal the floor.

How long does it take to cure and dry?

It takes liquid flow screed between 24-48 hours before the surface can take light foot traffic. Cure time generally depends on the thickness of the floor and the atmosphere in the room. It is typically 1mm per day up to 40mm.

Are joints necessary for liquid flow screed?

Up to 400sqm can be laid without an expansion joint although it’s advised to have a bay joint with compressible material in weak spots such as doorways. We operate nationwide in commercial, residential and domestic projects.

Based in the West Midlands, Central Flow Screed is one of the UK’s leading installers of underfloor heating, liquid and flowing screeds. As approved contractors with the major screed suppliers we provide nationwide coverage and have over 15 years’ specific industry experience.
