Liquid Screed Aftercare

At Central Flow Screed and Underfloor heating we believe preparation is key to a smooth and professions floor covering. Once you have your new screed floor it’s important to get it right before covering it. We’ve therefore produced a guide to cover drying, laitance removal and priming.

Curing:

It’s important that the environment of the screed floor is sealed for 48 hours, in which the screed should be protected from sunlight, frost and drafts. If you are missing windows and doors it’s important to seal them whilst in the curing process. Note that usually liquid screed can accept light foot traffic after 24-48 hours.

Drying:

With a well ventilated room liquid screed will dry at a rate of 1mm/day up to a thickness of 40mm, if above this then it will dry at a rate of roughly 0.5mm/day.

You can reduce drying times through good ventilation, this can be achieved through opening windows and doors, or through the use of dehumidifiers and commissioning. These dehumidifiers can be used after 72 hours of the screed being placed. However, it’s important that you use a closed system to make sure that any moisture extracted from the environment is removed.

Sanding:

Liquid Screed often requires sanding, this is to remove surface laitance. Sanding at 7-10 days also improves drying performance, however after sanding, ensure you vacuum dust residue.

Underfloor heating commissioning:

Underfloor heating must be ran prior to the application of floor coverings, despite how dry the screed may appear.
